Australian Volunteer Coast Guard Association Inc. is a Volunteer Marine Rescue Service, Operated Totally by Volunteers. Our aim is the Safety Of Life At Sea (SOLAS)The services we provide include manning Limited Coast Radio Stations and monitoring Marine Radio emergency frequencies. We also provide a Marine Assistance service to manned vessels in distress and work in conjunction with the Rescue Coordination Centre and the Queensland Police Service. We also provide a “Safety Watch” service, where the vessel Logs On with Coast Guard prior to going to sea. The information we require includes the following: Vessel name or Rego Number, number of souls on board, approximate destination and ETR (estimated time of return.) This gives us an indication of what we are looking for and general location in the event that you do not return. Once you have logged on we will endeavour to contact you once your ETR is getting close and instigate SAR proceedings should contact not be made prior to the ETR. Please Log Off when you return.All assistance provided is free, however we do request persons give consideration to making a donation to cover all or part of the fuel used in providing assistance. In the case of overdue or missing persons we provide a Search & Rescue Service (SAR) under the direction of the RCC or Police. The majority of the bases are only manned between 08:00 and 17:00 on weekends and public holidays, however we do provide assistance on a 24/7 basis for vessels in distress. Unfortunately due to insurance constraints we cannot provide assistance to unmanned vessels where no lives are in danger. Other services offered include Marine Radio Operators Courses, Basic Navigation, Boating Safety and GPS instruction.
